ACC Corner – Tom Wright, ACC Chairman
Political Signs
I applaud the amount of participation in the Democratic process in Carolina Shores. The CSPOA is dictated by the state to follow the law concerning the time when a person may display a political sign. Please note the political sign size requirements below.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 3, Sub-section 121 (2) a. of the North Carolina Planned Community Act Chapter 47F, and in concurrence with Section 6, Sub-section 18 of the Declaration of Restrictions of the Carolina Shores Property Owners' Association, Inc. (CSPOA), the CSPOA will allow political signs to be displayed no earlier than forty-five (45) days before the day of election and no later than seven (7) days after election day. Political Signs or flags on improved lots shall be no larger than 24 inches by 24 inches, and on a freestanding support. No more than two (2) signs in total may be placed on any lot; for example, one in the front and one in the rear. On corner lots a V-shaped sign may be used and considered to be one sign. No signs are allowed on any unimproved lot.
Note: A political sign is one that attempts to influence the outcome of an election, including supporting or opposing an issue on the election ballot. Flags or signs containing derogatory comments in reference to specific individuals, organizations or beliefs are prohibited.
POA Library – Sue O’Reilly
Our Library has an overabundance of Puzzles. Please hold off on donating puzzles for a while until we can organize what we have. When you do donate, please place the pieces in a plastic sealable bag.
We are continuing to get books that don't meet the guidelines for inclusion.
· Only popular Fiction and Non-Fiction and copyrighted no older than 10 years from the present year.
· General interest Magazines from the last 2 current months can be left on the table--no back issues.
· Reference Books or manuals of specific topics cannot be accepted.
· No "how to books" (crafts, cooking, gardening, financial, religious, etc.) or those books with yellowed pages.
When books are dropped off that we can't use, someone else has to bag them, carry them out to the car and transport them to the Public Library or thrift shop. This is becoming a burden that shouldn't be. This volunteer Library amenity will only continue with the cooperation of those who use it. Thank you in advance for helping in this regard.
Happy Hour in the Park
Come join your friends and neighbors for a casual evening under the pavilion. It's BYOB and a snack for the SHARING TABLE. Rain or shine. Happy Hours are always the third Friday of the month. Can't' wait to you see there.
The next Happy Hour is Friday, August 16 at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm.
Singing at the Calabash Senior Center – Chuck Karnolt
People that enjoy singing old favorites meet every Monday at the Calabash Senior Center at 10:00 a.m. We are looking for more voices to join us. In addition to joining in song, we will begin visiting senior living facilities in the fall. We want to sing for them as well as engage them to sing with us during the visit, and to spend time socializing with them. Our objective is one facility every 4-6 weeks.
Currently, we sing acapella as we have lost our keyboard player, and we are looking for either a keyboard player, a guitar player, or both.
Come and sing with us at 10:00 a.m. on Mondays - Questions call Chuck Karnolt (27 Brassie Drive - 860-539-0747 -ckarnolt@yahoo.com).
FYI, we sing a little Barber Shop, a little Broadway, a little southern gospel, patriotic...etc.
New CSPOA Recreation Area Hours - Rick Griffith
Our Recreation Area continues to be a great amenity for our residents.

Effective Monday, July 15, were the NEW Hours for the Recreation Area, 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. This includes the tennis and pickleball courts, bocce courts, basketball court and the pavilion. These facilities should only be used during these hours.
The pool hours will remain 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Lap swimming only 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and Water Aerobics only (M-F) from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 am.
Also, while using the Recreation Amenities, please be courteous to our neighbors. Please try to keep the loud noise down to a minimum. Things like yelling, screaming, cursing, loud music, etc.
Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.
The Lord's Pantry/Porch – Frank Pritchett

Book Discussion Group – Pat McKay
Our second selection, "The Girls Who Stepped Out of Line" by Mari K. Eder, paid tribute to the 400,000 young women who volunteered in various capacities in WW2 despite having a hard time in every shape and form! The individual stories of some of these girls were just fascinating and so well-researched by the author. The altruistic, selfless, courageous behaviors they displayed as they flew planes, became spies (OSS), reporters, cartographers, authored books, etc. helped to change history and serve as role models for the coming generation. These young girls stepped out of line and broke the law to serve and save others. "After all, what you are is what you do, isn't it?"
Our August meeting will be held on Friday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. We will discuss two books again; they are "Lessons in Chemistry" by Bonnie Garmus and "Mrs. Lincoln's Rival" by Jennifer Chiaverini.,
Tennis – Joyce Disano
Join us for open tennis starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Carolina Shores tennis courts. Wear proper court shoes. Hope to see you there.
Garden Club – Happy Mullen
The Garden Club welcomes new members. The meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the POA clubhouse, and annual dues are $10. The first meeting of the 2024-2025 season will be September 11. Meetings always include a guest speaker, a plant raffle and a social hour. In lieu of December and May meetings, there is a Christmas luncheon and a luncheon in May where the scholarships are awarded. Contact Happy Mullen at 240-354-4290 with any questions.
